Queen Street Portsmouth is part of a new wave of very large projects currently being constructed by Ardmore Construction. The project comprises the construction of 569 apartments in 16 buildings up to seven storeys high arranged around the perimeter of the site, plus a landmark tower 22 storeys high. A two level underground car park covers most of the site area with upper floor private gardens within the centre of the development. Retail units occupy the ground floor of some of the buildings.
The buildings are being constructed of reinforced concrete of pile foundations. The main blocks will have brick and rendered facades with aluminium rain screen to the tower. The retail units on Queen Street will be constructed to shell and core standards with capped Capabilities, ready for fit out by the individual store occupants.
A two storey reinforced concrete car park covers most of the site area. The car park will be entered at ground level and there will be a single stoey above this. The roof of the car park in the centre of the development is used to support landscaped gardens.
Car parking facilities for the nearby Royal Naval Dockyard must be maintained for 150 cars in summer and 90 cars in winter throughout the construction period, involving careful logistical planning.
